Anyone know the average Intel starting salary?

For an entry level VLSI design engineer.

I have a summer internship lined up with them because I was planning on going to grad school in the fall, however, now they tell me a full-time opportunity is open and I am just wondering how much it would pay. The internship is paying around 27/hour, so I would think full-time would work out to be more than that (56k/year). I was sort of 50/50 on going to graduate school, but then when Intel offered me a internship for the summer I decided to do it.

Personally, I'd take the full-time job and go to grad school part-time.

yeah, my friend who had a co-op with them for a semester should be getting around 60K when he goes back FT in the fall.

That's exactly what I want to do, if I can get this full-time position.. If not, I'll just stick around Va Tech another 2 years and stick with the internship this summer....

my friend is making around 60K. he was hired about a year and a half ago and this is in austin, TX.

I think it depends on location. Not sure if prices changed since 2000, but my offer from them was about 65K in Silly Valley.
I believe at that time offers from places like Austin were about 10K less.

It's probably same as Austin. In silly valley they had a cost of living differential.

Be sure you look at the total compensation package... There's quite a few bucks to be earned amongst the three bonuses per year, the discounted employee stock purchase, and the allocated stock options. Not to mention the added niceties such as the possibility of your schooling being paid for, the very nice amount of time off per year, etc...

There's more to life than base salary.

Great answer by Wingznut. Good tip when you are going to ANY job interview. For example, if one employer gives you full benefit and the new one doesn't? You better be getting the extra seven grand (just throwing a number out there) in base salary to make up for it.
