----- Anyone know 'stuff' about cars? Drv Side seat will not recline?

I have a 2000 Maxima SE. Worked fine till today. I wanted to move forward the drivers side back rest. I used the power lever and it did go forward a bit. Too much actually. Tried to have it go back and it won't.

Thought maybe it needs to go all the way forward, and then it would start to recline back. WRONG. So now I can't drive my car because the seat has me hunched over.

The power slide back, forward, up, down works fine. I just can't recline.

Anyone have an idea? Blown fuse? For the 2000 Maxima is there a wire or connection I should look for inside the back of the seat?

HELP!!!

Do you mean the lever on the outside of the seat? A fuse? Is this expensive to get fixed?

The car is still under the MA 60 day state law warranty. I'm thinking this would fall under 'operate vehicle safely' catagory??'

It would certainly pass safety if it couldn't recline. Certify...however...

Certainly not a fuse, or else the entire seat would fail to operate. In this case is sounds like one of the switch contacts has broken or coroded.

The switch is easy to remove, as the two buttons pry straight off and the cover plate can then be pryed off bottom first. The switch is then connected via two screws to the seat frame IIRC.

It was tested at repair place, and it is a bad switch. Motor is good, just switch is not.

Anyone know how much a switch would cost for the 2000 maxima drivers seat?

Check around at some local junk yards. Never heard of a Maxima seat switch going bad before, so it's not likely that you'll get another bad switch.

Once you find a switch have a local trim shop replace the switch for you, if it requires seat removal. Most mechanics just aren't any good for interior work.
