Anyone know 'Skagen' as a watch brand?

ya they are fine. Not high end but quality last time I had one was over a decade ago.

Small step up from a swatch really.

My wife bought me one about 10 years ago. It's a nice thin watch that looks good. The only issue I have with it is that it needs a new battery every 10 months or so.

Same here, they do make slim watches but they run out of battery quick, I had two. iirc they are German, known for their good quality

Can the battery be replaced by the average jeweller, or does it have to go somewhere special?

Walmart did it for me, so must be easy... AT one point I was planning to buy a kit and batteries in bulk from ebay... but then wife bough eco-drive on birthday... never seen a watch battery since :D

I've been tempted by the more eco-type watches, but a Skagen watch was the first one that I liked the look of, partly because it looked a bit different than the mainstream ones being sold here.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's made me less worried about going for an 'unknown' (AFAIK).

Good quality. Not super high end, but good consumer brand. They were hot in the 90s when thin watches were in. Nothing special about the movement. Any jeweler/battery shop can change a battery.

I love my big watch face minimalist Skagen blue face/silver body. The fine metal mesh looks awesome and never makes my wrist sweat as regular bands do and doesn't pinch like traditional metallic bands. Best $70 I ever spent but this model I love is no longer made so I'd be pretty sad if I lost it. Batteries only last about 1 to 1.5 years and it takes a funky size of battery. Really nothing bad to say about it.

I have a Skagen watch and it's lasted about 10 years with no problem. The battery does seem to drain quite fast, that's the only thing.

they are a fashion brand as far as i'm concerned. nice designs though.

I believe you're correct.

They are a US company. They're owned by Fossil. A little searching indicates that they are manufactured in China.

I had one many years ago, and liked it, but the mesh ripped the hell out of my arm hair. So I dumped it and moved on.

Been rocking an eco-drive for a while now, aside from not maiming me, like it a little better. Not much difference really to Skagen, but the solar power is nice, and it probably looks marginally classier/higher end. Looking to step up to an automatic sometime soon.

Yeah, I only get on with silicone straps, much to the disgust of one jeweller who fitted the last one for me. Leather ones fall apart without a lot of care, metal ones yank hairs and/or fit me poorly even with mods...

I've e-mailed Skagen asking whether it's possible to get one of their silicone straps with the watch I'm interested in.

Citizen Eco-Drive is where it really works. I have a Nighthawk 14 years old running like a champ. I have a new Citizen Radio Controlled Perpetual Calendar and it is also great!

They are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I bought one in 1998 for $90. Very slim and somewhat effeminate, IMO. No rust or scratching yet. Love the stainless mesh band it has. My sweat wore the coating off the brass case underneath, though the battery compartment lid is still shiny stainless. I haven't worn it in years.

Fossil bought the company a couple years ago. Just the other day I noticed prices on Skagens were maybe 50% higher than they used to be. Must be trying to take the brand upscale by charging more.

Skagen is neither low-end/cheap or high-end expensive. Consider it to be a "best value" brand.

This thread reminded me of my old beloved watches, went looking for them, found both, planning to get new batteries this weekend and wear them again!!
