I have the Wheel Mouse Special Edition Optical mouse and the optical sensor goes idle(almost kind of off) when the mouse is stationary. Im wondering if the optical sensor on the new MX series mice does this? And how do you like your MX series mouse?
Man couldnt get an answer from General Hardware :(

I only ask this cuz in some fps type games with the logitech mouse if I dont move the mouse constantly and let it go "idle" then do a quick movement with it... it sometimes looses its place. I might be just crazy but to me my Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse responds faster than my MS Wheel Mouse Optical, but sometimes the Logitech loses where it is and goes off the screen when I do a quick movement. Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed this?

all m$, logitech, and apple optical mice have the primary LED turn off when idle...it helps lengthen the life of the LED

the reaction speed for the mx is probably faster :p the refresh certainly is.

Stop camping and you shouldn't have that problem any more.

Well, every optical mouse sensor goes "off" for a while, except the difference between cordless and corded mice, is that some cordless mice goes completely off, and the surface needs to be touched to be completely sensitive again, so basically, with my Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, if I left it alone for about 30 seconds, I can poke it around with a finger and nothign will register on the screen, or I can hold it and move it around, and .5 seconds after I touch it, the cursor begins to move. Corded mice don't have this problem, as the lag is about .001 seconds long (exaggeration, i know) because they don't need to save power like cordless mice do.

yup, unless your just camping no one stays still long enuph for a total off. its not just on off, there are levels in between. even corded ones dim after like half a second of no movement.

Well I dont camp and according what some of you guys said, I believe Im diagosing it wrong. The sensor light dims cuz the way I used to play fps games would be when theres no action around me I would center the mouse cursor and move around in the game by keyboard with my right hand while my left hand is on the mouse (which would be still) and the sensor light would be dim within a sec of my hand being still. When I go from this sensor "dim" position with a quick jerk to target someone, the mouse would go off screen sometimes if I moved too fast. So I guess its the slower refresh would be the cause of the problem. The only reason I bring this up is cuz all this talk of cs reminded me of it. But now that I moved back home without a job and broandband it really wasnt a big deal ;). It certainly didnt affect regular use of scrolling and web-surfing. I guess I might try one of those new MX mice if I get back into gaming.

Thanks again for the help.

ok i guess we were wrong, u just play wrong:) come on, u gotta straff constantly. straff turn around corners. straff turning is ur life in most fps(excluding tom clancy stuff) ur mouse is always used.
