As seen HERE - They should be using AMD processors in the Dimensions as of... today.

Anyone hear of anything?

... and they've now dropped the 9150 in favour of the Conroe-based 9200 completely. Price is still exhorbant. Waiting for 3100 and 5150 replacements... or cheaper prices.

EDIT: They're up as of today! :D Yaay!

Bump.

And just to spice things up: Imagine if Dell *BOUGHT* AMD as a sole-provider of CPUs? Imagine that.... :)

Aw forget it. There's a super deal on the 5150 this week. I'll get that and upgrade it next year if I need more speed.

Anyone remember the huge hullabaloo when Dell sold the first AMD-based server? It was pandemonium around here.

Now Dell themselves announce they'll be using AMD processors in the Dimension home lineup starting this month and not a single response. Bizarre, I tell you.

The 805 processor may not be impressive, but it's gone SO cheap at Dell.CA this week, I might as well go for it. I can upgrade it to a cheap 945 processor in a year's time.

seeing as the announcement of AMD based PCs was pre-Conroe I can understand why the priority isn't there anymore. AMD would need to offer Dell a much better price point than was likely originally agreed upon now that Conroe specs are available. If I was in Dells bargaining shoes delaying any kind of AMD release is exactly what I would do to ensure a better bargaining position. Also AMD may be trying to leverage it's ATI mobo chipsets with this deal. The world was a very different place only a few months ago.

and the C521 (sff pc) with AMD...

All higher-end desktops, and all Precision workstations, are still using Intel cpu's, inluding the newest models, the XPS 410, and the Precision 390 which both support C2D.

Dell sells about 100 million computer systems per year, so if they are buying about 10 million AMD cpu's, that's still only about 10% of the annual sales and production.

That's what I'm here for, man. ;)

All I know is that the same $900 Canadian gets me a POS PentiumD 805 GMA 950 or an AMD X2 3800+ GeForce6150 for the same cash.

My choice? Duh. :)
