anyone know of good sites showing how to tweak for optimal performance?

back in the days when windows shipped with a crappy tcp window size you could do registry adjustments to get better performance, but with new os's 'tweaks' don't do anything.

Most of the ?Tricks? prevalent on the Net are basically following the voodoo approach to computing. I.e. wishful thinking overriding science.

The following is the one that really works:

Download DrTCP: http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe

Run the proggie, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write
them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the
computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Example for good values:

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

MaxMTU - 1500 for Cable, 1492 for DSL .
