i think he pretty much covered em all... salvation army though, i know at least locally, they have an auction every morning, bright n early.. if you show up, most likely nobody else will and you can get a nice full couch for like 5$.. it may be a little dirty, just throw a sheet over it and its all good..... perfect for college students on a budget....

Salvation army around here gets some nice stuff from time to time. When my family drops off stuff about once a year we see some great furniture.

If you want new Big Lots Furniture has some really good deals. I was just there this weekend and found a nice couch for $300, didn't buy it yet though.

As a side note Big Sandy has a lot of the same crap as Big Lots only they add $200 - $300 to each peice :).

Duno about you, but cinder blocks, wood and mile crates served me very well in college. Bean bags too.

Second hand stores are usually best for stuff like that. But Salvation Army and Goodwill are good places too.

most towns and cities have a Want ad, For Sale type magazine or section in the daily paper, you can usually get good stuff really cheaply from people who are moving. The other advantavge to this is that you can see the place where the furniture was used and get a general idea of how the owner took csre of or didn't take care of their things. Btw,whatever you do,if you get used furniture that's upholstered, arrange to have it professionally cleaned the day it comes into your home.

Have you noticed a pattern where most everybody keeps referring you to local sources? The cost of shipping the stuff negates the deals you might find online.

We have a place locally that deals with estate sales. Actual estate sales, not the fake ones you may have heard of. See if you can find a local outlet for used furniture. I'd rather spend the same money for a quality used piece than a cheap quality new one.
