Anyone know of an XP app that'll do what Media Center will do?

I don't care if its free or cost money as long as it will stream my music and videos well and works with my remote.

And no, Media Center isn't an option. I'm not going to fork over hundreds of dollars for an OS for one feature, especially when Vista is now out (which I can't afford at this time).

So does anyone know of an app that will do all that well?


Also I should note that I don't care about using any DVR functions since I'm only using it to stream media not record it so if it doesn't have that feature (though I'm sure most will) then its not an issue.

Nope, just a PC in my living room from my server. Plus I have my Harmony remote that does the Media Center functions.

That's what I use although I don't use but about 5% of its capabilities. (I just playback videos I've downloaded since recording my own gets me bad quality and takes up too much space)

Go post something on their forums for confirmation it can do what you want but it can do just about everything most people would want it to do.

If you are a student you can get Vista Home Premium Upgrade for $70. If not you can get Vista Home Premium OEM for $120. Doesn't make sense to spend $80 on SageTV or BeyondTV, especially when Vista's Media Center is much nicer.

MediaPortal is what I use on my Media Center PC.. oddly enough, this PC is already running MCE2005 . Too bad the MS software is absolute ****** and crashes every time I open it now .
