Anyone know of an online DSL distance checker?

I'm trying to use the DSLreports.com one and you're supposed to wait for the bars to fill up, then click on them. Nothing is happening for me.

I also tried an SBC/Yahoo one and it is also just sitting there.

Either there are a lot of broken distance checkers or I suck at them.

I am trying to see if I qualify for 1.5mb-6.0mb DSL thru SBC/Yahoo and don't want to wait until morning to call them!

call tech support. When i switched from the $50 to $30, i had her run a check and see if i can get the faster speeds and uploads .. i fell right outside.

I don't think there's any way to tell the distance without contacting the CO.

I'm 15683' out. That explains the low 1.2mbps

Thank you for that -- their main one wasn't working but that one worked fine for me. It appears I may be unable to get the DSL I wanted. I just have to devise a way to get my apartment building moved a bit closer to the CO. 🙂

The only true measurement is the readings your DSL Modem Provides from the actual connection:

From my Zoom X4, the key figures are SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) and Line Attenuation (db levels), these determine your actual speed you will get:

ADSL Line State: SHOWTIME
ADSL Modulation: G.dmt
ADSL Annex Mode: ANNEX_A
ADSL Startup Attempts: 12
Elapsed Time: 92 days 14 hours 45 minutes 25 seconds

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 14.7 21.0 dB
Line Attenuation 49.9 31.5 dB
Errored Seconds 4524 847
Loss of Signal 11 11
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 956 174
Data Rate 1472 256 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

Interesting, according to that site I'm 14550' away.

It is just an estimate, though.

Got a question... according to that website I am 7460 ft from the verizon station. When I "downgraded" my account to the 1.5/128 they said I was too far away to get the 1.5. How close do you have to be in order to get it?

It will probably generally depend on your area.

Damn though, that sucks. If that's the case, DSL definately wouldn't be worth it for me, unless my cable got really sh!tty all of a sudden.

Well i still am able to get the 768/128 and its better than the 1.5/128 cable here..... but I was wondering how damn close you need to be to the substation to get the faster service...

I am also around 7500 ft. out according to that site and I have 1.5/128 (actually getting 1490/136), go figure that one out😀
