I'm looking for the 260ish MB file. I know I can get it on CD for free, etc. but I want to download it now. Every time I try to download from download.microsoft.com the speed drops until the server connection is reset. Every link I find on google points to the download.microsoft.com site!

The best way is to get the CD (free) from Microsoft. But - you do have to pay shipping.

the cd is completely free

"Microsoft will ship the CD to you free of charge."

Try using the Windows Update Catalog, which enables you to download updates to install at a later date.
You can search Google for Windows Update Catalog for instructions on how to enable it or use the link here.

although, quoted from microsoft's site : "DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update"

here's the link for the site in regards to the 270-something meg file:

If you read his post again, he is saying that Microsoft's servers keep timing out. Therefore, a link to Microsoft's servers is pointless.

Joemonkey: Try getting Download Accelerator Pro, that should help with the disconnects and allow you to get the whole file :)

:D I know, I've always had fast times when downloading from Microsoft's site; I do use getright pro for downloads though (sometimes I need to pause)! But, I havent encountered the issue joemonkey's experiencing. Maybe microsoft's mirror server in my area (if thats the case) is fine and dandy!
