^^ As the title says, I have an old WD HD that I would like to put Linux on to mess with again. Please LMK if you guys know of any. I would like to use the distro to do email, and surf the web with, that is about it. 🙂
Any of them that let you choose what to install, i.e. all of them. You'll have to be very picky about what to install to get a decent system with a GUI though.
Your best (well, only!) chance is with LFS. Use busybox and uglibc, and compile everything with size optimization (-Os flag to GCC) and you can pack a fully functional Linux system, complete with XFree86, Opera, and a fairly simple graphical mail reader, into about 250 megs. Use whatever is left for swap space, and use SMB to store things you create or download.
But make sure to try Linux on a REAL computer before you make any judgement about it. You ain't seen nothing unless you've seen KDE 3.1 with Liquid on a dual Athlon MP 1800! 😀

Absolutely right; while Linux (with KDE 3.x) is fine with less powerfull PC's, it really shines on fast machines.... got finally running Linux alongside XP Pro on my main machine and don't regret!
