Labs are highly intelligent, protective without being aggressive, loyal, easy to train. eager to please, and for the first 2 years, chew anything they can get their mouth on.

The are very prone to hip dysplasia so be sure to keep that in mind. I am not saying don't get the dog but 3 of our 4 labs (all came from breeders) ended up suffering from the condition and it wasn't cheap to treat nor easy to watch. Animals (dogs esp) don't let on that they are hurting. The first lab we had eventually broke her leg in 2 places and hip in 1 place running down the stairs to greet us. She couldn't stand but she was wagging her tail and smiling when we walked in none the less.

My lab sheds, but he gets brushed every night. this is good for the coat as well as helps to control the amount that he does shed. if you teach them early that random chewing is bad, they will stick to only their toys. Do not strike your dog unless absolutely necessary, they learn better by a firm NO, BAD DOG, then if your were to "beat it out of them". Beating a young dog can make them afraid of you, as well as destroy the personality they have.

they might, if you pay for his food and board for them.
