Anyone know of a good fishing spot around Sacramento?

Slew Foot

Having been fishing since Ive moved up here and with some friends visiting this weekend I thought we'd all go out. Anyone know of a decent place to catch something around here, preferably within a couple hours drive?

What kind of fish? Depending on the time of year, the Slough is supposed to have fish in it, although I never went out there to check it out. There's the Sacramento River, of course, no idea about fish there but hanging out in Old Sac and fishing would be kinda cool. 🙂

Any type of edible fish would be fine. It's not so much about the fishing as it is about hanging out outdoors for a day. Thanks for the tips though.

Most of the sport fishing that you will find now is Stripper <sp> (at least 30") some people go after Sturgeon if they want a hard pull. There some steelhead and salmon around. Check here for more info.

You seem like you know what youre talking about 🙂

How's the fishing around Folsom Lake at this time of year? Reports on the internet say that there's a decent variety available right now.

I was talking about the the Sacramento river and the delta region. Lake Folsom area is probably trout that your going to find. I'd do a search for fishing reports for that area to determine current conditions.

Bass Tournament this weekend

108 anglers are going for $100,000 prize at this, so this may give you an idea of what they go for. Bass - Stipper is the main sport fish and it's not even native. They aren't good for the Salmon population either. So, every bass caught is good all the way around.

The Sacramento River is mostly fresh water until you go westwards towards the Delta. Depending on tides, the water will be more or less brackish. Some people just go for the catfish too.

Folsom area is fresh all the way around there. Most of the reports I've seen for there involve trout stats and even forecasts sometimes. Good luck on your search. As you see, I have given you a link to the biggest newspaper for Sacramento. I just didn't spend much time digging deeper
