Update: Soy yogurt ftw. Actually tastes better than dairy :D

I've been trying to cut dairy out of my diet because it bothers my stomach; I eat yogurt a lot and didn't realize until recently that it contains milk (!). Anyway, I use yogurt in a lot of meals that I prepare; is there such thing as a tasty non-dairy yogurt?

While I'm at it, anyone know of some good dairy-free cheeses? I can't live without cheese lol.

How could you not know yogurt was dairy, I think it's time to change your medical avatar.

there are no real alternatives to cheese or yogurt.

you can get by, like my wife, with saying that the bacterial processing of the proteins in cheese and yogurt diminishes the negative efects of undigestile milk.

You can buy soy yogurt. Just like soy-any-milk-product-ever-that-you-can-possibly-imagine. Visit your local Trader Joes. Oh, and how do you not know that yogurt contains milk? What else is white and fatty?

Of course, soy yogurt isn't yogurt, it's a yogurt substitute. Just take a lactase supplement with your yogurt if you're lactose intolerant.

Bacterial processing isn't the point; I eat yogurt and my stomach hurts. I don't look much beyond that :D Also, the avatar is a Ninja ;)

The other night before I ate some delicious enchiladas, I took a lact-aid... and it worked. I was surprised. Try it.

Cheese has very little lactose in it to begin with, so should enchiladas. Unless you ate them with sour cream or something.

if something that is 100% made from milk bothers you, how about you just don't eat is vs. trying to find something that is like it, but isn't it

lol, that's one of the dumbest pieces of advice I've heard in this thread. think about it - milk bothers me, so I should cut out milk, butter, ice cream, yogurt, sour cream, cheese, cream cheese, etc., and not try to find replacements? that means no smoothies, no pizza, no macaroni and cheese, etc. to completely cut milk out of my diet without trying to find replacements would be stupid, no offense. rather than just quit I think I'll keep searching ;)

Good news, I found a local grocery store that has a health food section and they had a couple brands of soy yogurt. I tasted one this morning (strawberry soy yogurt) and it was pretty good, I actually like it better than regular dairy yogurt! Went great with my smoothie  :D
