Does anyone know if any DVD players out there support playback of avi files natively? That is, if I have a CD or DVD with .avi files copied from my computer - are any DVD players capable of playing these back without me having to burn them as SVCD or DVD format first?

I know that the PS3 and Xbox support this feature now but I'm wondering if any cheap standalone DVD players do the same.

If you search Newegg's DVD player category for divx you get some results. I remember Philips used to make a popular inexpensive player that supported divx so they might be worth looking in to.

I've had a Pioneer DV-588A-S (divx & xvid) for a few years now and it's been good but I think it was discontinued. It certainly won't play everything but it got me by until I got a WDTV.
