I am a little confused by it.

I want to get something like this for my dad for Christmas, but I am a little hazy. It looks like you have to have an iPod in order to make it work, which stinks b/c obviously he doesn't have one.

Is there any other product that allows you to do what this does? I'm pretty sure there is: if you look at the Wikipedia article, the third paragraph looks like it is what I'm looking for. Problem is, I can't find it anywhere online.

Can anyone help me?

EDIT: I found it, (here), but reviews say it sucks b/c it dies when it gets sweat on it. I need to find an alternative I guess

So you need the pod and that watch?

Yes. But you can get a Garmin 205 that has a built in GPS unit or the 305(which I already linked) that also has a heart-rate monitor.

Yeah that is a great price too, I'll have to think about that one

yes, the package consist of a heartrate monitor enabled watch + the pod that attaches to your shoe. There is a wireless connection between the watch and the pod. It's 97% accurate out of the box, after calibration it's +99% accurate. The big advantage is that it will also work in places where you have no GPS coverage.

good luck with whatever you purchase
