Just bought Chaintech VNF3-250 mobo for my new AMD 64, but it didnt run very well and not stable at all using my old memory. I dont know if it is because of the memory, because it just restarted by itself, randomly crashes, and sometimes refuses to boot because of the memory test and some other random stuff, but basically it is not stable. I tried to find a list of memory that is stable on their website, but cannot find any. If any of you using this motherboard and runs it well, please gimme an advice of what memory brand I can buy? Thanks :)

Runs great on Buffalo pc3700, kingston pc4000 (HyperX) and some cheapo Centon Dual channel with elpidia chips :) The est memory would be OCZ EB series :)

Thanks for the quick reply...REally really appreciate it.

Have some more question though...
Do you have any advice for the best performance for the lowest price that is guaranteed to work? I wont be overclocking a lot, probably not at all, just want to see some good stock performance. Hoping for a 1GB RAM (Dual channel) at the moment, but if it is too expensive, 512 will have to suffice for the time being..THanks

from what i understand, i don't think it's your board but your processor...

because the mem controller is on the processor, ram compatibility issues are now cpu related with the a64's

but like quino said

ocz eb's are good stuff and do very well on these a64 boards

Shim is right. It is more dependant on the cpu than in the memory iteslf. I have use the chaitek boards for 4 systems I built and I might go back to one myself since I am not liking the Asrock K8S8X that much. I had a mobile Athlon 64 2800 (CG) that I was runining with the cheap centon memory at 265 1:1 3,4,11,4 timmings. However withmy new cpu it only goes to 217 :( So for me iI am sticking to this cheap memory because all of them are suck at the same speed (the buffalo and the kingston) and they are way more expensive (paid $110 for the 1 gig centon)

dang it, how could it be the processor...Not again..

I just RMA-ed both of them (Ordered from Newegg) because the first one, it was not turning on at all. This one turned to be ok, running it it with my ATI Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Zalman cooling, but I was using the old memory stick from my old machine (No brand I guess), so I dont know what the problem is. I dont think there is a problem with the electricity at my apartement, nor any of the device, because the WinXP pro runs fine, I installed new driver for my video card, the graphic is fine, the sounds are fine with my new speakers, the only thing is, it keeps restarting at whatever time it wants, and crashes very very very often. I havent tried any games yet so if any of you have any opinion about gaming with this board, please let me know..I will be playing a lot of games. Do you think Newegg will receive another RMA if this board turned out to be very dissapointing?

The memory problem, I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it. Cheap is hmm..i think no more than 100 dollars, so yes maybe 512 MB is the only choice. Looking for the best performance and stable too, though. I wont be oc-ing, but I want it to be ready when I add more memory (Keeping it stable and add more performance)

Have any more opinions or just share your stories, I will really appreciate it. Thanks a lot :)

i have the chaintech vf3-250 motherboard also. Im using the athlon 3200+ clawhammer. When i got it, id had alot of problems with it, It wouldnt turn on when using the sata power connector, it kept crashing, and the cool & quiet casuses the computer to reboot. I found out I'd had to lower my memory timming alot to get this board stable. I think i dropped it to like 2.5-4-4-6 or somewere along that line. When i had my nforce3 150 from gigabyte. That board was very stable, I was able to run my memory at factory speed. they were 2-2-2-2 or close to that. Im using two corsair 3200 cas 2 512mb. and Id had to update my bios to the beta bios to fix some of the crashing problems with the memory too.

I've had great luck with ram on both my VNF3-250's.

All memtest86 error free settings (all at 2.9v except OCZ which I tested with 3.05v):

1x512MB Mushkin level 1 PC3500 - 216mhz with 2-3-2 timings, 227 with 2-3-3 timings

2x256MB Geil Ultra Platinum PC3500- 229mhz with 2-3-3 timings, 240 at 2.5-3-2 timings

512MB+256MB OCZ PC3500 EB - 245mhz at 2.5-2-2, 256mhz at 3-2-2, 263mhz at 3-3-3 (hit 275mhz at 3-4-3, but not stable)

Was the Mushkin 2 x 512's?
Thanks.

Thanks.
How do you like the Chaintech? It would be a great budget board with a 2800+. Some people are complaining about bios issues.

I love the VNF3. Best board I've owned outside of my Epox 8RDA+. I have had no problems with the bios. The one that came with the board reported temps wrong, but a quick update fixed that.

Crucial, Crucial, Crucial ... TOMS did a grand slam 15 board, 15 ram review and the only ram 100% compatible with every product was Crucial. Some ram had dismal charts, like 3/15. Crucial is all I ever used until I got frisky when they stopped making high performance ram (about in 2002) then I started having ram problems with other vendors.

Well now they are back... The only RAM to perform as well in skt 754/939 boards as Intels boards was Ballistix made by crucial. A very well it performed... see AT's mem reviews.

Old news, Ballistix bests it. Should, since it's using an even better version of the micron chips OCZ EB is using.
