Anyone know if UPS handles large delivers differently?

Building a computer for a client and have about 6(BIG) packages coming in Tuesday from newegg, anyone ever order something that large that the delivery time has been different from the usual time they've delivered before?

to answer your question, yes, it's been my experience that unusually large deliveries typically come earlier in the day than usual.
 
I was fairly pissed the other day.

Ordered two packages, two different sites, both Next Day Air.
One site actually shipped Next Day Air, the other (and I chose this option) shipped Next Day Air Saver.
The first package arrived in the morning. I figured, hey, hopefully he'll drop both packages off since they were both at the nearby UPS facility early in the morning. Oh, what's this? You only have one package for me? Son of a bitch.
A second UPS driver came by much later.
 
It doesn't matter. We've had to have two trucks come to deliver all of our packages in the morning at work. I'm aware that residential is different, but still.. It doesn't matter if you have one package or ten, they get to you when they get to you.

Normally they would. It's strange that two different drivers had packages for you. They're on routes. It was probably a sorting error at the hub.
 
Speaking as a stockroom employee for a large science building a well-known university, it is unlikely to affect your delivery time. They have a set route to follow, and rarely vary from it - accordingly, the time of day is usually the same. Whether you have one package, a dozen, or forty (seriously), it doesn't make a difference. Your definition of "big" is subjective, but I would wager on an objective scale, given a computer build for a client with Newegg parts, not really that big - nothing that will really affect the UPS truck or driver.

The most likely reasons the delivery time could be different: holiday shipping policies may involve a second truck on the route, or the driver has been forced to vary their route for unrelated causes (emergency road closure, etc).

Next Day Air gets treated differently. I've only seen a few (FedEx is more relied upon for high speed packages), and if they aren't a UPS produced box, it's slapped with red and yellow tape, lots of special stickers, and had a different driver. It's akin to the difference between FedEx Express and FedEx Ground.

All air packages are treated the same. Next Day Air, Next Day Air Saver, 2 Day and 3 Day are all air services. As are Worldwide Expedited and Worldwide Saver, obviously.

We get all of our packages at the same time, regardless of service. I'm sure New Mexico has a pretty small hub overall. It's possible that his Saver package arrived on a different, or late freight arrival.

FedEx Ground is essentially a completely different company from FedEx Express. Interesting fact: Ground drivers are paid a commission for pickups. Don't ask your FedEx Express driver to take your FedEx Ground packages, you'll piss your Ground driver off.. And it's never a good thing to have a pissed off courier delivering your packages. 😉

If its really big the ups freight will deliver it, and set up a time. I just had a 600lb package delivered via a ups semi truck. I had to get it off the truck though.... 🙁
