Anyone know if this would be covered under Nissan's warranty?

My sister called me up last night telling me sparks were coming out from her car and she was hearing a clanking noise, so we just called AAA up and had the car towed to my place.

Anyway, it looks like the hangars for the catalytic converter rusted off..I put the car up on a ramp and it looks like I can't just buy a replacement hanger...wtf? I'm probably going blind, so I figured i'd ask you guys for help. Her 3 year warranty just expired a few months ago, not sure if exhaust components have a longer warranty...

Dude that's just the heat shield for the cat. It's not really a big deal, you could put it back on, but you don't really need too, unless you plan on parking ontop of long dry grass after driving for extended periods of time.

I actually took the heat shields off of my old car (82 BMW 320i) because I couldn't get the bolts tight enough to stop them from rattling.

almost 45k...
yeah my sister's a crappy driver, but i can't blame this on her :D

So I can get away with ignoring it? I'd rather fix it if possible, but if it's going to be expensive and it's not really going to be worthwhile, ehh i'll ignore it.

Thats a catalytic converter sheild. It MIGHT be covered under the emissions warrenty? But it does need to be there.

It is the heat shield. AFAIK it is not covered. Just leave it off and drive. Everybody else does.

Yeah...that is why every mechanic I have talked to on the issue (3) say that when it comes off and rattles to take it out and leave it out.

My mechanic just removes crap like that.
It's not necessary. Just don't park over dry leaves ;)

It is "necessary". Hence the reason it comes on all makes and models. Yes you can start a fire and even burn your car up in some cases. But if/when it goes bad and clogs up it gets REALLY hot then things get even worse for just some basic trash.

No it will not hurt the car in the short run, but neither will removing your seatbelts and air bags. :p

Same, except one said you shouldn't park on dry grass. :)

The heat shiled is mounted on the bottem, not the top. It is not there to protect the car. It's there to prevent grass fires. Like everyone else is pointing out, leave it off, unless you park on dry grass.
