anyone know if they actually weigh letters at USPS ?

We have about 100 letters of 1.2 ounce to send out and it's going to be 60cents each to send them. If we just put one stamp on them, it'd be at least a $20 savings in postage.

I mean, 1.2 ounce feels like your avg birthday card... does the post office actually weigh each letter to confirm postage ?

no?

I believe the auto-sort machine has a scale built into it. I've had letters returned for too little postage. I don't know if the cut-off is exactly 1.0 oz or not.

Might be a bit risky. My brother just had a letter returned that owed a few cents more postage because it was odd sized, which was really surprising since it was a regular card size. 😕

I also believe the weighing is automatic.

The weighing and seperation of those who dont have proper postage is automatic. You will get them all sent back to you for insufficent postage.
