Anyone know if the 1907FP is as good as the 1905FP was?

I'm PISSED because I finally have the money to get a new monitor, but Dell stopped selling the 1905FP now, so I've got to go with the 1907FP. Does anyone know anything about it? What panel does it use? Is there another monitor with the same panel that I could see the review of?

The 1907FP now has a TN panel versus the former 1905FP's MVA/PVA panels. Inferior color and viewing angles. But better response time. It likely uses the AUO M190EG02 V0.

Edit: nope, it uses Samsung LTM190EX.

Yeah I got one of the 1907FPs. But I upgraded from a 1901FP so there was an improvement. The viewing angles are worse along with the LCD itself being natively way too bright, but for games (8ms) it does fine.

Because, given the fact that there are NO reviews on it, I have no idea if it IS superior or not. All I know is that the 1905FP was consistently praised by everyone and the 1907FP has nothing out about it right now.

Does anyone have a link to a better review than the worthless Cnet review?

i got a 1905fp last month straight from dell. now im thinking about selling it and buying a 1907fp. i love my 1905fp except for minor ghosting but i have moved from a CRT so its expected with all flat panels

From what I've read on other forums, it seems like basically the 1907 doesn't reproduce colors QUITE as well, but does do a great job with ghosting. The viewing angles aren't supposed to be as good either, but many are saying they're nearly as good as the 1905FP (one guy compared them side-by-side, so I have to trust that opinion).

I believe there are two different panels being used in the 1907FP. One is a Samsung and the other is the AUO one. I think they discovered that the AUO is a 6-bit panel, while the Samsung is an 8-bit. Seems like luck of the draw on which you get, but if you get a Samsung one then it should be equal/better than the 1905FP in every way.

That's what I'm seeing as well, but basically everyone is getting the AUO panel.

There are no 8-bit panels used in either the 1905FP or 1907FP. 1905FP = Samsung LTM190E4-L02 (6-bit PVA), AUO M190EN03 V0 (6 bit P-MVA). 1907FP = Samsung LTM190EX (6-bit TN). On the Samsung panels, dithering is significantly more noticeable than on the AUO from what I've heard.

there are 2 kinds of 8 bit panels, i called dell and they confirmed it that 1907 was a 8 bit panel. (search dell community forums for the reviews and discussions), but does 1907 have all the colors that a true 8 bit panel gives u. that is the question!!

i have the 1907 now. the only problem with it just as about all the lcds in the price range is that lcds usually have a max refresh rate of about 75hz.

in the case of 1907, the max u can go upto is 1280x1024 at 75hz, which means that your crossfire ati 1900xtx setup or your quad sli 7900gtx means squat, nomatter what highend videocard you have , you can only get a max frame rate of 75 fps at max resolution of 1280x1024.

this works for me just fine though.

x1900xt, 2.8ghz dual core, 1gb ram, 160gb 7200rpm, 2 DL DVDRW

my bad, i meant that 1907 has 16.7 million colors like a 8 bit panel, but dell will not confirm or deny that it is a 8 bit panel.

i like my 1905fp. if dell had a step up program like evga i would do it. do you think since im still under warranty i can send it back because its "deffective" and since they dont produce them anymore they will give me a 1907?

I'll refrain from preaching about ethics, but you won't get a 1907 as a replacement. the 1905 was pulled off of their site just a few days ago, they'll have plenty of ones lying around to send as replacements. Not to mention that unless it was 21 days ago that you bought the monitor, you'll get a refurbished one as a replacement, not a brand new one.

No, it's the refresh rate thing that you're wrong about. Refresh rate doesn't apply to an LCD. Your LCD will show an image/refresh an image exactly the same no matter what rate is sent to the monitor.
