Anyone know if Norton's Anti-Virus can scan .rar files?

I read something on /. today saying that most anti virus programs can't scan .rar files, is this true?

Disable NAV, download an EICAR Test Virus, put it inside a .rar file, and make a couple copies of it. Now enable NAV, make sure scanning within compressed files is enabled, and then try copying, moving, opening, emailing or manually scanning your pet viruses, see what happens.

Hum...interesting, I know NAV will scan zip, but not sure about rar...
