Get a video card with TV out
the Radeon AIW 32mb is pretty good - but I guess you actually *need* a monitor to set it up.

1) Vid card with tv out
2) TV with SVideo/RCA video in
3) Video cable (SVideo or RCA depending on TV/Vidcard connection)
4) TV with Audio in (Miniplug or RCA)
5) Audio cable from soundcard to TV (mini to mini or mini to RCA depending on TV's hookups in #3)
6) Headache medicine -- after trying to read text on a TV, you WILL have a headache.

What do you mean? You can certainly use your computer and port out a video signal to a TV (if you have a videocard that has TV-out), but if you think you're going to replace your monitor with a TV, no way. The G400 had the best TV-out on the market, and even on a Trinitron TV, i wasn't able to use it for more than games (that means no word processing or browsing... text was absolutely horrible).

the simplest way to do this is probably get a video card with a TV-out feature. I think the most common is S-video. As for the sound, just output to the audio-in jack on the back of the TV. You just need the right cable to do it.

Basically im making an emulation machine so the cards need to be cheap and low profile because they would be going into a desktpo rather than a tower

Those guys are absolutely correct. Text on a TV is horrible. The only viable use of a TV would be for gaming.

Desktop vs. Tower makes no difference, unless you're using some ultra low profile case. Standard cases use standard cards.

Personally I'd look into getting a scan convertor, it'll be much easier to deal with & you can use it for other things when you're done. The audio hook up is pretty straightforward.

Agreed with Moralpanic. It's too hard to use a tv as it's too blur. You'll regret to set it up.

My roomates and I did this last year. We had a Celeron 400, 256 MB Ram, & an old ATI Xpert98 card (8meg PCI). Everything else was built in. It had been my parent's old comp. Hooked the sound up to our stereo, and hooked the comp up to our LAN. Grabbed a couple of cheap USB gamepads, and we could play NES, SNES, Genesis, MAME, GB, etc. Games looked just as good as the originals. Also used it as an MP3 jukebox. BTW, I suggest you set up the OS with large icons and use an extra-large appearance scheme in the display settings. That helps alot.
