Anyone know if an intel socket 7 mobo will take AMD k6-2 cpus?

I have an intel an430tx motherboard with a p200mmx in it right now. I just got a couple of k6-2 300s though, and wanted to try themn out. Would they be any improvement over the pentium, and would they even work in intels board??

Somebody help me out!!

No, a K6-2 will not work in that board. (And I'm fairly certain that Intel never released a BIOS that would allow it to support an AMD K6-2. ;) )

if i were you i would just try it out !

I am not sure...i think i read somewhere that amd k6-2 cpus interpret an 66mhz clock internally as 100mhz....this would mean you can set the board to 3x66 and the amd would run at 300.

but of course i dont know about the bios...so i'd say just try ;)

It will not work, I have the same board and it only supports up to 233MHz, so you are out of luck.

Hmm, depends. K6-2s, at least some of them, would interpret the 2x multi as 6x, thus 66mhz fsb x 6x multi would give 400mhz(approx). For you though, the k6-2 300s had some late revs that could reach 450mhz, but they are not very common.

When it comes to TX mobos, 2 things were needed to run a k6-2 300:

1) a 4.5x multi and 66mhz fsb or 4x multi and 75mhz fsb
2) a cpu voltage setting <= 2.5v

Your best bet would be to find a dirt cheap SS7 mobo, if you insist on using that k6-2. BTW, that cpu would be faster in everything except fpu, where it would perform about the same as the P200.

It all depends on the mobo. I had a Intel TX chipset mobo before that accepted a K6-2 and Cyrix processors up to 300mhz ( although itwas kinda flaky at 300
so I had to throttle it down to 266mhz). At first, it won't but all it took was a BIOS upgrade.
