i have a set of address labels that i have merged into wordperfedt from a database. there are about 1000 names, and since i need to send bulk mail, they all need to be in zip code order. (and sorting by hand is not an option, duh) under the sort function, i have set up a new sort called "sort by zip" (took me a long time to come up with that name) but i am having problems setting the options that tell what field to sort by. (i also have it set to sort by paragraph) the merge fields are as follows:
field(9)?
field(2) field(1)
field(3)?
field(4)?
field(5), field(6) field(7)
field(8)
in the sort function, i have it set to:
line:5 field:3 word:1
and it does not do the sort. i have switched the line number around, because on the docutment, the zip is always on line three. but no matter what line i set it to, it will not sort by zip. i changed the merge fields around so that the zip was the very first thing, and so line:1 field:1 word:1 obvioulsy works, but that is not very applicable for a mailing label.
so.... to make a sort story long.... can someone please explain to me how to set up the line, field, word options?
