anyone know how to unlock a stock Monsoon Headunit?

my friend just got an 01 Trans am, and somehow locked the stock HU, he took it to a dealer and the dealer said he has to get a new HU. That sounds like BS, theres gotta be a way to unlock it right?

there's a six digit code in the monsoon manual... since he bought the car used, he might not have it?

I think the dealer can still unlock it though. When I bought my last car, the VW dealership says that if I ever lose the code, they will have to take it out and reset it somehow.

I can't imagine there wouldn't be a way to unlock it... I had to do it with mine when I disconnected the battery (not a monsoon).

have him call the headunit manu and see what they say

Yes, Monsoon stereos can be reset. I've never had to do it from mine, but I've heard that pressing a certain key sequence on screen will display a security code, and then you call some phone number, blah blah blah, and a computer tells you what keys to press to unlock it.

Or something like that. The phone number used to be public (I'm told), but it was changed, because they only want the dealerships to have access to it now.

Find another dealership. There's nothing wrong with it, if it's just locked.
