I have some shows with incredible background music but it's impossible to find, so i wana try take out the dialog and stuff myself, what should i use to do this?

as far as i know isolating specific frequency ranges such as voices and then removing them, is for all intensive purposes impossible. you could always just use a filter to take out the entire range used by the dialog, but you'd lose whatever other audio fell in that range as well..

i could be wrong, but i dont think it can be done... (at least not with consumer equipment/expertise)

You can do it, but it's a real pain in the ass to do it well. I think that with enough time, you can do it in Cool Edit Pro by isolating a center channel of pure vocals, converting it to a negative channel, and mix-pasting it back in. I haven't played with it enough to really know though, but someone else might.

I know that GoldWave (www.goldwave.com) thinks that it can remove vocals but from my testing it doesn't seem to remove all of them, and I really doubt you could ever create an instrumental version of a song with something like this.... Worth a shot though....

Sasami2k and awesome media player has a voice filter as one of its options. Doesn't totally eliminate voices, but does an impressive job anyway.

What about those dorky adds in the back of Poular Science mags with the guy in the 70's haircut singin his gut out?
They have been selling a device for years claiming it takes out all the vocals heh heh.

i've tried cooledit, but it's really hard to use, i don't know where to even start. Also i have a song with a huge click in it, i've tried the auto click remover things but it doen'st do it. I've tryed editing with cooledit, but can't blend it well. Can anyone help me?

Well there are a couple ways.

I think SoundForge has a feature to do it.
Many programs featuring a "karaoke" mode can strip the vocals. I think I had a version of Adaptec CD Creator that did it.

FYI, in studio recorded music, the vocals are on the lead track by themselves. Some software/hardware can isolate this track completely but it's hard to find.

If the music is stereo, the vocals are centered and most of the other instruments are panned, J3anyus's method will work. Using Cool Edit Pro highlight the entire track and select 'Vocal Cut' (on the menu, Effects -> Amplitude -> Channel Mixer).

I don't understand how it works but it has something to do with inverting the phase 180 degrees on either the left or right channel and mixing the two channels. However, it will definitely change the sound (possibly taking out some instruments) and leave some vocal artifacts. Personally I think the sound quality of most songs is really compromised.
