Go to an automotive store... they have kits for filling R-22 A/C units (and kits for adapting R-12 over to R-22.
The kit has the tools and directions that you'll need.

why would R-22 be found in an automotive store?

I don't think that it is but I had another person, in real life, tell me to buy it there. I called one auto store and they said they didn't have it. But then again, I have heard that you can get it at Sam's Club. huh

nope...it's a professional job. get the leak fixed.

makes more sense to plug the leak than try and recharge it yourself and keept doing it.

that would depend on how much he has to pay to buy the r-22.
