It happens to everyone every once in a while, everyday on my computer. Explorer.exe crashes and when it restarts, a few of your icons are missing from the lower right taskbar. ICQ and few other programs in my case.

Anyone know a procedure I can go through to get these icon to show again without restarting my computer?

Thanks,
Joe

btw: I'm using Win2k.

do a search for tweakui (sorry i dont have a link), it has a repair icons tab. Yes, it does work in Win2K.

TweakUI won't put the icons back in the taskbar. They are several utilities that do this you can search at Tucows and find one. I'm not sure if any are supported under W2k though. Alternatively you can logoff and log back on to restore the icons.

If you're having explorer.exe crash often I would be more concerned about finding the problem than repairing the icons afterward. Once in a while would not necessarily be anything to lose sleep over but frequent explorer crashes are the sign of a more serious problem.
