Anyone know how to play "tears in heaven" on guitar?

OK So it seems I should be using my thumb to pluck the E string and just my fingers to pluck the DGBe strings. But holy crap how do I fingerpick the DGBe without my thumb? Or is it not even fingerpicked? It seems to be fingerpicked.

I dunno --- but this song is driving me nuts. Any advice?

Yep, fingerpicked. Use your thumb for the E string.

Edit: Songs like that are hard to learn because if you break it into a base line and a melody line it's hard to keep proper timing. If you do not sing, start. Singing along with that song will help you play it a lot.

Tough song to learn. But once you do, it's a fun song to play. Singing along is the hardest part I think.

i just strum the chords for the song and fingerpick where convenient, good song tho, easy to play if you just strum and fingerpick here and there. I know tons of metallica and jack johnson, sadly, no chicks bagged due to guitar, maybe gotta stop hanging out with so much sausage.

I'm embarrased to play Stairway. I actually learned the live version of it to jazz it up since it's so cliche now. Heheh- I was at a Page/Plant concert and Robert Plant ran out on stage and yelled "STAIRWAY- DENIED!!!"

Anyway, it's fun to play, but don't do it unless asked

I can play it but I've always had a bad habit of hooking my thumb over the fretboard to play bass notes so it came pretty naturally. Damn Jimi.
