If this is in the wrong forum, apologies and Mod, can you please move it?
At work, there are 2 NT 4 SP6a machines. One (computer A) can open .prt file fine in Excel 2000, but another (computer B) cannot. CompA shows the results of what you would see if you went thru the Text Conversion Wizard. CompB, even when you try to change the file association to Excel by right-clicking, gives an error that the file you're trying to open can't be found.
On CompA, the file association for .prt is shared with .DIF, and both are listed as owned by Excel.
On CompB, I couldn't modify the file assocation for the .DIF to include the .PRT, so I tried creating another file association just for .PRT => that didn't work, as I received a prompt that .PRT was already owned by another app
On CompB, you can launch Excel, then manually open the file. However, you have to proceed thru the Conversion Wizard each and every time. Another problem is I would prefer to emulate the behavior of CompA, where I can open the file simply by double-clicking on it in File Manager.
I've already searched on Google and the MS website. I've even created a post on Woody's Office Watch for this. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
