I'm wanting to make a frozen diet coke and none of the stores around here seem to have them in diet. Anyone ever tried making these at home or know of any recipes?

It's actually for my grandmother. She's in the hospital and can only have thick liquids and she's really missing diet coke (she's diabetic), so my mom told her she would try to find someplace that has them but we're not having any luck.

Open a 2-liter and squeeze out some of the air. Put it in the freezer. After 30-60 minutes, check to see if some of it is frozen. If it is, shake it so the frozen stuff breaks off the sides and floats around. Squeeze out more air if necessary. Repeat this every 15-30 minutes.

Not as smooth as the stuff from the machine (different syrup concentration), but good.

Cool, I'll try that :) It shouldn't matter that its not as smooth as the real thing because she has to eat/drink it with a spoon anyway. Thanks :)

It's like making an ice-cream controlled. Just grab a blender that is surrounded with ice ( assuming that the container of the blender is metal) and kept the cycle going until ice crystals starting to form..

or

just put the soda in the fridge before it froze all over :p

or put the soda in a large wide pan or something and put it in the freezer.

check in on it every hour or so and check for ice formation. when you see ice forming, break it up and scrape it away from the edges. after doing this a while, you get coke granita! serve in a chilled martini glass with a lime wedge!

add some rum to the mix to make it more funner

They make a device like you are describing. The blender surrounded by ice. The name eludes me at the moment....wait... what is it? hmm

OH YEAH - Ice Cream Maker.

That's the closest answer but there won't be any carbonation left.

You can't really do it on your own w/o diet coke syrup. If you had some of that, you could freeze it, put it in a blender, then add soda water...that way you'd have the proper soda/water ratio with carbonation.
