From what I have read, it just emits a certain tone, if I could find something at Radio Shack to make something that works, it would beat spending $49!

My parents just got caller ID about two days before I came home for break. At the same time, they had the phone company make it so people who have their numbers blocked from displaying on caller ID can't get through (they hear a recording saying that they haveto dial *37 (I think) plus our phone number to get through).

I haven't been woken up yet by a telemarketer. Usually we get one around 9:30a every day of the week. None so far ;).

AFAIK, the block keeping caller ID hiders from calling us is free. We pay like $4/mo for caller id service

I was at Radio Shack last night, they have chips for $4.95 that record a 20 second message. Does anyone have the knowledge regarding how to make a little board utilizing this chip that would hook up to the phone and play a recorded message?

Um, actually probably not...the mods most likely would have moved it out of GH, since this isn't directly computer related. Who cares anyway?

Thanks johngute

I wonder if you record this sound to your outgoing message of an answering machine would it do the job for calls that you let the machine pick up?

Might be worth a try:)

I thought of the answering machine thing, but would it work after your phone has rung? the computer calling you would detect ringing instead of the no phone tone(I am such a poet;) ). I wish I was'nt such a idiot when it comes to electronics!
