Anyone know how to kill and prevent Silverfish in a home?

A big ol' silverfish was in my bathroom sink last night, and a few days ago there was one in a different bathroom's tub. Do these things come out of the drains or something? What is the best way to kill and prevent these things from coming up and paying me a visit?
😕

Silverfish

Edit: also an article there on how to manage them.

we had tons of the bastards in one of my apartments... problem with the apartment is that there were no scheduled, building-wide insecticide sprays. each tennant has to request a spray on their own. so i could have a guy come out every month (which i did) and it wouldn't help tremendously. i did get enjoyment out of spraying them with lysol (98% alcohol) and watching the little bastards squirm and die.

True, but he might suddenly have a TGG YAGT problem...

Hrm, always thought the critters in my area (along with 2" legspan wolf spiders :Q) were silverfish, but after looking at those pics, apparently I was wrong.. the thingies we have are up to about 2" long and have a lot of legs. The legs are longer towards the things' heads, with 2 long antennae at the very front. They're generally brown & have lengthwise stripes of darker brown... fast as hell too.

Don't read ATOT while at work 🙂

"Do these things come out of the drains or something?"

BigSmooth's link touched on your answer:
  • ...a reduction in available water or relative humidity is helpful in eliminating silverfish...
You've got a leak somewhere I bet. They're attracted to the moisture. Fix the leaking drain, or supply line, and they'll be gone.

Well, you may also have a shower curtain dripping in the same spot everyday. By staying moist all the time, it's the same as if there was a leak. Either fix the leak, condensation, dripping, or ventilate the area.

centipedes, earwigs, and silverfish oh my!

I shudder at the thought of any of them. I get them all in my house, fortunately not to often.
