I found a clean install works better.

Is that for a pre-built machine like a Compaq or Dell? I once found a site that allowed you to download an iso file of a CD. Of course, after I burned the CD, I found the original HP Win98SE CD.

Try doing a repair first using the XP CD. If you still wish to install a fresh copy of XP you can do so later without needing your Win98 CD.

The bottom line here is to either get your OS bootable again or else you need to find your Win 98 CD.

good luck!
