Anyone know how to install Visual Styles ?

have it 🙂

Still do not see it in the drop down though, and when I browse I don't see a file ending it the .thm or whatever it's looking for.

you need to download that Universal UXTheme Patcher and run it to patch uxtheme.dll so you can use other Visual Styles,

download the Visual Style you want from deviant art, and extract it into C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
but you should extract it to Desktop since this person has made 2 folders instead of making it just one so if you were to extract it to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\, you would have \Abraxis\Abraxis VS 1.0\ instead of just the one folder. so double click on the Abraxis folder, then rename the Abraxis VS 1.0 to Abraxis (to match the *.msstyle name in order for it to show up when you right click properties > appearance), then copy the Abraxis folder to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

to much info, but generally you should extract it to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\ so it would be like C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\theme-folder-name-here

you can either double click on the *.msstyle in your theme folder or select it by right click on Desktop, properties, Appearances and select the one u want from "windows and buttons" list, click ok.

In those weird cases, extract to the themes folder then double click the theme file. You will see it when xp automatically open the 'appearance' tab in display window.

also, make sure that the .msstyles file is named the same as the folder, and is in the main folder for the theme... sometimes people don't pack them quite right so windows can't find it

Install the Neowin UXtheme Patcher, reboot. Extract it to any folder & double click the msstyles file, apply.

Have you disabled the Themes service by any chance? Doing that would prevent the themes from showing up.

Nope service is running, even stopped and restarted.

EDIT: have also tried another theme called Recurve. Same thing, I double click the visual style icon and it brings up the display properties window, but the only choices available are XP style and Classic Style.
