Anyone know how to do this?

I wanna capture stuff from me playing XBox 360 on my TV and have it save it to my PC. I know I need a "capture" card or something, but there are so many. I'm not sure exactly what is necessary to do this, and I also want to know how to set it up.

I know my TV has a video output on it, so I was thinking I could just run a cable from my TV to a capture card on my PC while playing the 360 on my TV.

is that as simple as it is, or is there something else to do?

EDIT:

well I just found out from finding the manual online ... it only works when in svideo, rf, or video mode 🙁

looks like i can't do what i wanna do 🙁

Pretty much any TV tuner/capture card should allow you to record from a composite video source (some will have extra features like hardware MPEG2 encoding, but that's not something you absolutely need if you have a fast CPU for encoding).

Of course, you're pretty much out of luck if you want to record the actual HD Component feed (it's possible, but the few cards that do exist will cost more than your entire computer probably did).

No no ... i don't want to actually capture the HD quality feed. I just want to be able to play the 360 hooked up component video and have it output on the composite.

I realize it'll only output at 480i ... but i wanna know if it'll even output at all if i'm using component video as a source.

FWIW i have a samsung DLP.

Well, I don't have any first-hand experience with HDTV sets myself - so I can't say whether or not your TV will scale down the Component (what it's displaying) to its 480i composite output. Does the TV's manual say anything specific about how the output functions?

If you want to test if it will work, I think you should be able to send that output to a VCR and record off it. If that works, then you should be able to feed the same output to a capture card.

heh I don't have a VCR, nor do I have an extra TV to hook up near it to see if that'll take it.

I haven't had a gaming system since N64, does the xbox still output composite / s-video while it's outputting over component?
