I was wondering if there was such a thing as a "career councellor" or something that can assess your skills and then assist you with persuing a more meaningful career? I don't mind what I am doing for work now but often I feel as if it is meaningless and I should be doing something more productive...I know now is not the time for a career change with the econ and all but for the future I wonder exactly what areas I should look at, and if there are any jobs out there that I don't know exist that I might want to do...I love technology but I like customer interaction/PR more...

Thanks

There are aptitude tests out there, but I've yet to see one that works very well. The worst was one my highschool forced everyone to take. It took a couple of hours to answer hundreds of questions. One question was related to animals. It said, "do you like horses, yes or no". We all waited patiently for a few weeks to get the results. It listed the top 10 careers you are best suited to. Mine went something like this:
1) Vet,
2) Farmer,
3) Zoo keeper,
4) Animal trainer,
etc...
Everything was animal related. The test was nice enough to say why it felt you deserved that job. It said the only reason for these was that one question of of hundreds. Basically if you liked horses it doesn't matter what else you answered for any of the other questions. That is how bad those tests can be.
