Anyone know how to design logos?

I'm pretty new at this. I have a clear idea/design in my head, but I just don't know how to put it on the computer. Do you guys use certain programs or software like logo makers or shape/text designers? I really want to make this logo for one of my dad's business. I can draw it out fine and know where I want the colors/lines/shapes/sizes to go, but I am just totally utterly confused as to how to put it on the computer. How do you guys do it? Any hints/tips/suggestions? Thanks.

Well, what I meant was I can't draw it perfectly fine. Like it's kind of a crappy sample drawing, but I have a clear concise idea of how it should look like. I was just wondering how do logo designers USUALLY do their logos? How should I go approaching this in photoshop?

Are you giving it to your dad's company for free?

If not, go here: http://www.designoutpost.com and tell them what you are looking for. SOmeone there will design it and give you the final results (but not for free). Then you can give that to your dad's company and just charge them a bit more than you paid to have it designed.

First of all, you should use Illustrator not Photoshop. Second, homemade logos look homemade. If this is for a business I definitely recommend hiring someone who knows what they are doing. I mean this is the logo for a company, the very first impression most people get of the company. You want a professional look, not an "Oh my little boy did such a good job drawing our logo" type of thing.
