I bought a used PS2 from someone and it appears to have a Parental control PIN set for the DVD's and it won't let me play any R rated movies. Anyone know how to get rid of this?

Thanks

PS2 equals Playstation2, doesn't it...? I feel stupid.... I've spent the last 10-15 minutes searching the IBM website trying to figure out if you could even add a DVD drive to a PS/2 system, then tried to figure out if this was a laptop or desktop. I then figured maybe it was software specific, but now I'm realizing I was looking for an answer to the wrong question!

I then searched Google using the keywords DVD Parental control reset +Playstation and found the following FAQ from this site:

"To unlock the parental lock, press the select button and input the number code: 7444. I think censorship is stupid so use the number code if your parents "locked" up your PS2."

I also found the following from Sonyweb.com:

Hi, I had a problem refering to my PS2. Well I set the 4 number password and set my PS2 rating to G, and I dont know why I did, but now everytime I want to watch a DVD movie rated anything but G it always asks for my password and the thing is, is that I forgot my password and can't watch dvd's my my PS2 anymore and it's getting me mad! Well, I hope you can help me out because I really need that dvd video. Thanks.

Yes, we also don't know why you set your PS2 to the G rating. However, the problem can be cured. The simplest solution is to delete your system config file from your memory (it's the PS2 file on the card). But we prefer the safer method. You can always refer to your instructions manual and it tells you how to reset the PS2 to its purchased state. But, of course, you're lazy (just kidding), which is why you contacted SonyWeb, so instructions on how to reset your DVD rating and PS2 are in the next paragraph.
Press the SELECT button and enter the 4-digit number "7444" whenever the Parental Control display asks fou for your password. The old password is then deleted and you can re-enter a new password. Please remember to enter it as something that you'll remember.

So...if you received the manual (I assume you didn't) you can either reset the entire system back to out-of-the-box defaults, or just reset the code with the info above.
