Alright

I have the unfortunate problem of having a bios password on my HP Omnibook 4150B.

The worst part is the fact that 12GB hdd in it was partitioned off into a 2 gb (C:) and a 10 gb (D:) sections. The 2 gb is full and I can't update DirectX, which is required to play some games I want to play on it.

I am really kinda leary about tearing it apart, b/c it is under warranty until Aug. 2003 and I don't want to void that. Nor do I want to send it to HP and have to wait 2-3 weeks for them to finally clear it for me.

Any ideas on how they clear the CMOS "software" wise?

Why not backup what you have and reformated the drive and create a single partition?

The laptop is set to boot from hard disk only and I can't format and re-install anything now

I am trying to clear the CMOS so I can flash the bios on it as well. Unfortunately, it requires a floppy to flash the bios because the bios doesn't have the nice "ALT + F2" feature that most newer motherboards are coming out with, at least my new Asus board has it.

Software BIOS password receovery - I found this, don't know if this will help or not. I'm pretty sure the BIOS on your OmniBook is a Phoenix BIOS which is supported by this tool.

The only other thing I can think of is to remove the battery and then take the laptop apart and remove the CMOS battery and let it sit for a couple of hours and hope that the CMOS clears.

Although it sounds like you're going to have to send it back to HP to get it cleared unfortunately.

Thanks for the help. But, that doesn't work on a laptop bios.

It just cleared my date/time settings and then left the password on there.
