What do you think I am building it for? It is 437 sq. feet.

I will take pics, It was a lot of work, and it turned out great

I was going to try and explain it but it is too hard without pictures. I did a quick search and this looks like a good page, including using the carpenters square, which is the process I was going to try and explain.

Link to stair building

P.S. make sure you build to code or you may have problems when selling/insuring your place ;)

Iuse to build Stairs for a living (I was a Journeyman Carpenter way back in my 20's) and I couldn't explain it to him either. Most Deck Stairs are fairly simple as it's a straight run without multiple landings. Now Circular Stairs is another story!!

Well if your Deck is 5'1" From the Slab then you can use 8 risers at 7.65". You'll need to find out how far out the landing is to determine the length of your tread cuts.

Keep in mind that once you start cutting you will have to compensate for the thickness of the 2x? Redwood material that you are going to use for the actual treads and cut that extra amount off on the bottom of each stringer which would make your first riser an 2" (or what ever the thickness is of the material) shorter than the rest of the risers.
