anyone know how spinners work?

my cousin (not me) got some spinners and when he installed them *MOST* of the time when he drives they just sit there and don't spin...but sometimes they do. these are real spinners and not hub cap spinners.

there is a bearing and then 3 lug nuts that you screw onto the rims.

To me the design should be so that when the rims spin it pulls the spinners with it and then when the rims stop the spinners keep going (kind of like how a bike works) but it is just one bearing and the spinners can go either way. (when you spin the spinners with the hand - they spin for a really long time)

Once again, I wouldn't waste $ on spinners myself but I am asking because spinners that don't spin = stupid...so i am trying to help my cousin.

any help- greatly appreciated.

however, idk how to make them workk...car moves forward and backwars which somehow needs to make the spinners go in a circle...so...add weight to one spot on the spinner the heavier parts momentum causes spin?....?
 
Part of the interesting nature of spinners is that they don't spin when your vehicle is moving, and do spin when it is sitting still...
 
Spinners aren't supposed to spin when you are traveling, only when stopped. It also, for some reason, matters if it is front wheel drive, rear, 4 .. etc.

but arent they suppose to spin when you stop? - from what i understand, shouldnt they spin when you brake? (from the momentum?)

it's a FWD if that matters.

I would advise disassociating with your cousin immediately. Its obvious he's a loser and an attention whore with poor taste. That said, spinners are the stupidest thing I have ever seen, spinning or not.
