Anyone know how much system resources cleartype and/or xp's builtin theme takes up?

That's the service, not counting the actual size of the files used. If your wallpaper is 23 megabytes, you have to factor that in.

I don't use a wallpaper. Trying to weigh the benefits of the look (and I don't think the default xp look is as bad as most people think) vs. the system resource cost since I don't have too much RAM.

I disable all of WinXP's stupid things liek themes and everything. IT does help performance but I am also more used to it since I have been using the old grey look since Windows 95 and I really hate WinXp's look for performance and preference reasons

I did the obvious thing and looked at system resources with and without the themes. You were right it's 5 mb. I can't see a difference with cleartype which seems hard to believe. I guess I'll enable it. EDIT: it looks like it takes under a mb. I'll leave it disabled since all it really seems to do is bold everything. 😛

I like some of the effects for usability purposes. Like seeing a window's minimize effect helps show what action is taking place if you clicked the wrong button. But I'll take performance first.
