Anyone know how I could find out what a paticular insect is by description/characteristics?

In my basement bathroom there's all these little flies. They're smaller than a typical fly, they don't really fly around unless I start to go after them, but when they do fly they quickly land again and every time I find them they're always facing with their heads pointed up the wall and when on the wall they resemble inverted hearts. Does anyone know what these are or where I could find out?

They're probably fruit flies. It means you need to take out the trash more often.

Nah, they're not fruit flies. Fruit flies are really teeny tiny, these are somewhere between a fruit fly and your run of the mill house fly.

Those are flies typically found in dirty bathrooms. You need to clean it better.

Its not really a dirty bathroom, but it is in the basement. So what will bleach do? Force them into the walls? Make them have to find another area of the house to migrate to? I want to permanently get rid of them, not just put a band aid on it.

I bought a box of raisin bran a long time ago, and about two weeks later, I open it up and it was like the entire box was full of fruitflies! They were all over the house. When it got dark, I turned off all the lights except in the kitchen, and the whole swarm of them came in and landed on the ceiling and it was simple to vaccuum them up and then with the vaccuum still running, I took it out on my porch, shut it off and took the bag out. About half of them flew out, but all I cared about was they were out of the house.

At least I didn't have Vinagaroons in my cereal like a few of my neighbors had.. The cereal section at the grocery store across the street was taken over by them.

Click on the pic of the scorion, then click on "Invert Gallery"

Click on any of the "Tailess whip scorpions" If that came out of my box of cereal, I would totally freak.
