hi

i am i the market for a cd-rw and everyone says get a plextor. Here in australia they are hard to find and aare very expensive!

i have seen a couple of drives with 'burn proof' technology (or equivalent such as Ricoh's 'just link') and just wondering how good it is or weather it would be better to just get a plextor anyway.

I don't seemyself doing a lot of burning, just back ups and archiving stuff, but i do want it to be realiable. :)

Thanks :)

justlink is probably just as good as burn-proof(if not better).

If you're looking to save money, how about something like an 8/8/24 Yamaha drive?

In my opinion BURNproof and similar technologies aren't that useful...
They'd let you play games or whatever while burning but burning makes a pretty heavy impact on system resources and at 8x takes less than 10 minutes...I'm sure you can hold off the games for 10 mins.

The plextor 12/10 is nice drive and very high quality, but I, like you, don't agree with the price.

I love my 8x8x24 Yamaha, and with a 4MB buffer it doesn't get Buffer Under Runs doing Word, or IE or MP3s. It would if I tried to play games, but like I said, I just wait 10 minutes.
My 8x8 Yamaha cost me 2/3s what a 12x10 plextor would have.

If you plan to do ALOT of burning the Plextor will probably be worth it for you, but if you just plan to burn a few CDs a month like myself, it's hard to justify the price of a plextor.

There are many fine working cdrw units for sale that do not cost the price of Plextor units. Yamaha, Sony, and Richo make some great working units, as do other brands, all will work realiable for you. Make sure you get one with at least a 2meg buffer on IDE units.
