Scrap and salvage business?

I was chatting with a friend today who mentioned what her uncle does and it is something along the lines of... More or less he buys a semi of old equipment from a Corporation for a set price then turns around and breaks it up and sells everything.

Not exactly, but I know my cousin used to scavenge excess copper (I think it was copper) from the places he worked and would then turn around and sell it to folks he found out of the phone book (don't worry, he didn't steal anything, he made sure that it was going straight to the trash). This is just a guess, but I'd imagine if you're gonna do this you'll probably need some sort of business license or set up some legitimate business 'cause companies might have a problem just selling the stuff to someone who walks in off the street.

youd probably need some experience dealing with the type of equipment and such that you want to buy and sell, so you can tell if its worth buying, and what it will take to make it worth selling.

im told auto-salvage is very profitable, though the couple guys i know who do it seem incredibly busy and work 8am to 5 or 6 pm weekdays, and 8-1 or 2 saturdays.
