Video card, found a few on e-bay, thier web site says its a directX 8.0 card, but has slow memory/core frequencies compared to GF3ti200. Has anyone encountered these? It claims to out do Radeon 7000 in 3d Mark.

They are very weak performers. Good luck on drivers as well. If you are a gamer, avoid this card.

Your research was correct ... SiS 315 is the standalone incarnation of the VGA engine you currently find in SiS all-integrated chipsets (650, 740). It's a DirectX 7 engine (drivers are DirectX 8 ready though). 3D engine is complete for DX7, but fast it is not. The fun part about it is very good DVD decoder hardware. (But if you want only that, then its ultrabudget "305" version with half the memory bandwidth will suit you just as well.)

For 3D, you'd have to stick with quite low resolutions to make it run well ... keep in mind that this is last year's budget hardware.

;) Absolutley you're unlikely to even achieve GF2MX perf (faster than Rad7000 aka RadVE) from that! A GF4MX, Rad7500 are the absolute minimum anybody should consider with thbe Rad9000 and esp Rad8500 and GF3 being well worth the extra cost for the VAST majority of people. What's your current setup, budget, needs and req?

I got one, works fine, not many compatibility issues. You're stuck to 800x600 in most games though.

;) With prices of GF2TI, GF4MX, Rad7500 and Rad9000 being so low it makes very little sense to use onboard gfx, esp the very under-powered SiS315. For offices there's really no need, but if gaming is a concern it makes sense to at least go for one of these. GF3, Rad9000PRO and Rad8500 don't cost much extra and are well worth it, esp in 128MB flavours. While at it you might want to check out GF4TI4200 too, esp if you have a fast CPU or don't wish to compromise on things as tends to be necessary with any of the other cards listed above.

I've decided not to get one, btw it's an agp dual head card I was looking at not part of a mobo. I think I'm just gonna save up and buy something similar to this.

:D
kt400 AMD XP2000+
512MB pc-2700
radeon 9700 pro
raid 0 WD special edition 80 Gigers
($1300 rig w/the works)

don't really want to spend a whole lot, was hoping to stave of a major upgrade for a couple of months with a slightly faster vid card.

Current system :(

OC Celeron 633@750
160MB no-name pc-100
OLD Rage 2000(not the pro)
4.3 GB WD ata-66 and one 4.3 GB maxtor ata-33

Radeon 7500LE lowest offer: 80 Euros. SiS 315 cards are 60, 305 is 30, and a mainboard w/ graphics on typically is no more than ten euros more than a comparable one without. That is a lot of a difference ... in the market where those low end solutions are targeting. Got to keep an eye on what you are going to do on your computer, of course.
