Anyone know of a house plant forum? 
Or maybe someone here can help.
I bought a Dwarf Schefflera plant in Hawaii a year ago (actually everyone in my family bought one). Mine is growing great and everything is cool.
On the other hand, my parents' plant is teh suck. These plants grow in a lava rock See Here.. The lava rock has a hole drilled in it about the size of a golf ball and the plant sits in there. Roots usually develop out over the rock, as in the picture above. (as did mine) My parents' plant is not. It is root bound inside the lava rock. I removed the plant (very delicately) and the roots and just balled up in there with nowhere to go. This has stunted it's growth dramatically. Mine is probably 3 times as big now, and they were about the same size a year ago.
Anyways... how can I encourage root growth? I like it being in the lava rock, but I am thinking that I should just plant it in regular potting soil and see how it goes.
