i'm looking to get a couch set for our backyard. i had one picked out for over 3 months now, and it finally came back in stock this past weekend. however my damn internet went out all weekend, and when it came back, the set was yet again out of stock, and off the sale. this is the one i was looking at:

http://www.wayfair.com/The-Hom-Kess...in-Black-with-Cushions-BAS-2226-LPRF1003.html

that is the style that i'm interested in. the price it was on sale for was $845 and that is around the price point i'm looking to spend. and now they say it won't be back in stock until the end of april, and i would prefer to get something before then, and who knows how accurate that is. when it went out of stock previously, when the "back in stock" day came, it pushed back another week, and that happened like 3x.

as someone who has no experience with outdoor furniture, i really don't know where else to look for this stuff. does anyone know of any other stores/sites that sell stuff similar to that, that would be in that same price range? i could go a little higher to the $1k mark, but really trying to keep it around there if possible.

i also don't want complete crap quality though, which is another thing i'm concerned about, even with that set there. it has decent reviews, but i've also heard wayfair doesn't publish the bad reviews so who knows. i've purchased a few things from wayfair that i have been extremely happy with in general though, so i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

looking for something like that, and not quite a true sectional where each seat is it's own piece. i like how that one is like 2 love seats with a corner seat, and the size is perfect for where we will be putting it.

so anyone have any suggestions on where to pick up something else similar in that price range? i did google and saw this other site "homeclick" has it on sale for around $900, but the reviews i'm reading about that company sound very shady so i would prefer not to go that route.

EDIT:

location is in maryland so we have all 4 seasons. i plan to put it in my garage in the winter time when we get snow and stuff, and it will be under an umbrella when it is out there for the most part. just some info on the climate it will be in.

Having lived in MD; you do not want something that will have problems with the rain.

An umbrella will not cover that unit enough for sun/rain protection.

Anything you get will be expected to fade and should be water repellent.
If it gets rained on; the rain will stay in puddles and potentially soak in if not treated.

yeah i am assuming that stuff will fade in general. why do you say an umbrella won't be enough to protect it? just because the sun will go right through it?

the location will be in a corner near the house/garage though and the umbrella is rectangular and will be covering the whole area, and is a large umbrella (11'x9').

For me, the number one consideration would be longevity, how well what you put out there will withstand the rigors of rain, sun, wind, thieves, animals, whatever. Yes, you want it to be comfortable and serviceable. You could maybe have something foldable, could maybe throw pillows on it when used, bring them inside when done.

Misunderstood what you meant by an umbrella.

Because of the expense of the furniture and quality; I would ensure that the umbrella
  • should protect from an arc of horizon to horizon.
  • the protection should be for both sun and rain

We had a couch swing down in St Mary that the cushions lasted 3 years before they became an eye sore. The swing had a canopy for protection, but still. That was only about a $300 unit. Wife had the cushions then replaced and treated. Those lasted 5 years in Vegas

I'd be a little bit weary about the longevity of wicker in outdoor environments, myself. I'd look for something either steel or aluminum.

a lot of the "wicker" stuff is not real wicker but is like a synthetic that looks like wicker. my mom has some stuff she's had outside since before i got married back in 2008 and it looks great still. but she got it from kmart and they don't even sell that kinda stuff anymore.

I was gonna order this set next month after my deck is done http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K8AVR04
from a seller on Amazon, but they raised the from $1299 to like $1700 2 weeks ago, and now isn't even available. maybe they will bring it back with the old price. It's probably or was the cheapest good sized rattan sectional with Sunbrella fabrics.

read some of the seller's reviews, I guess his account got shutdown by Amazon for complaining Amazon holding his money for up to 90days.

I have a faux-wicker set that is still doing awesome (maybe it's Target?). It's like a thick heavy synthetic cord, like a waxy wicker. They are quite solid and heavy. Granted, these were outdoors underneath a covered porch. 5-6 years and still doing awesome.

I imagine nothing will last long when exposed completely to the elements...If you go that route, I would get something like cast iron and have it re-sealed or sprayed every other year. NEVER leave fabric cushions out in the elements. Even the synthetic ones will rot and mold.

Personally, I've never seen the attraction of outdoor furniture that looks like indoor furniture. I am a fan of Adirondack chairs and benches. It also lasts forever.

not a fan of the heavy cement/metal looking benches and chairs. i prefer a more modern look. for the area that this is going, we're looking for a L shaped couch/sectional too because it will fit perfectly in this area where we will have it covered by an umbrella.

actually really like this set here, but it's a lot more than i want to spend right now and i think it also is too large for the area.

also like this as well, and was looking at some of the collection sets which could go for about $1k with the setup i liked.

wonder if there are any 20% off homedepot coupons lol...
